Euclid Insurance Services, Inc. was founded 51years ago by Peter G. Colis. The son of immigrant parents, Mr. Colis served in the Navy and entered college at the end of World War II. He graduated Northwestern University in 1949 and initially pursued a number of callings. In 1952 he settled into the insurance business and founded Euclid as a one-man insurance agency selling all forms of commercial and personal insurance. Over the years, Euclid has grown into a diversified firm employing over 115 people with 2002 net commission revenues in excess of $13,000,000. The firm operates in three distinct business units supported by common accounting, information technology and human resource departments.
Euclid remains a family business and today is owned 100% by the Colis family. In 1992, Peter’s son John joined the firm and assumed CEO responsibilities. A graduate of both Northwestern University and the Kellogg Graduate School of Management (Northwestern University), John pursued a career in reinsurance and insurance for 10 years before joining Euclid. His career began at General Reinsurance Corporation and included time at Aon Risk Services in Chicago. In addition to Euclid, the Colis Family is active in a number of other businesses. The family owns Oxford Bank and Trust, a suburban Chicago community bank with assets in excess of $370,000,000. Oxford is run by Peter’s son, George, who left an investment banking career in 1987 to lead the family in the bank’s acquisition.

Euclid Managers (Professional Liability Division) operates as a general agent for architects and engineers and public entity programs and is an underwriting manager and claims administrator for internet, tech, media, manufacturers and miscellaneous professional liability products. The firm markets and distributes its products through nearly 3,000 brokers and agents across the country and operates almost exclusively on a wholesale basis. The firm maintains offices in Itasca IL and Kansas City MO and is considered a coverage market with a reputation for product innovation and superior underwriting. In 2008, the firm generated written premium in excess of $39,900,000.
Formation of Euclid Exec
Continuing Euclid’s tradition of strategic expansion and diversification is the formation of a new division, Euclid Exec, to capitalize on lack of focus and experience in the management liability market.
It will operate as a managing general agency, underwriting on behalf of its carrier and reinsurance partners, and marketing those products through the experience of its principals.
The company will be led by Jim Seymour and Paul Bunone as well as claims and support personnel with it’s carrier and reinsurer partners.
